MIPCOM-2016: world premieres of films, series and programs will be showcased at the media content exhibition in Cannes

Every year, in early October, Palais des Festivals in Cannes welcomes star guests from all over the world to MIPCOM – exhibition of exclusive content for global audio & video market on all types of platforms, including broadcast, cable, digital and satellite TV, cinema, radio, video and DVC, multimedia.

In 2016, all the events are planned for the period from 15 to 20 October. The exhibition will start with MIPJunior — the leading showcase for kids content, planned for 15 – 16 October. Among the premieres at MIPJunior are «Splash and Bubbles» and «GRIZZY AND THE LEMMINGS» cartoons.

The main section of MIPCOM, on 17 – 20 October, is addressed to professionals in creating, producing, financing and distribution of TV, radio and film content for wide audience. Among participants of the exhibition are the world’s largest market players: 20th Century Fox Film Corporation, BBC Worldwide, Canal+, Discovery Channel, The Walt Disney Company, HBO, NBC, Orange S.A., Rai, Sony Corporation, Warner Bros. Entertainment.

Specialized expositions at MIPCOM spread over some 24,100 sq.m. of the show room. Among the participants, there are 2019 content producers. This year, MIPCOM expects over 4600 companies interested in buying the presented content. The expected total number of visitors is over 13,700.

MIPCOM-2016 program includes a number of world premieres:
  • THE HALCYON — a British series by Sony Pictures Television
  • MATA HARI — a Russian series about a famous dancer, seducer and spy who lived at the time of WWI. Produced by Red Arrow International
  • THE SAME SKY — a series by Beta Film
  • THE ROCKY HORROR PICTURE SHOW: LET’S DO THE TIME WARP AGAIN — by 20th Century Fox.
All shows are accompanied by press-conferences with TV stars and creators of films and programs, experts talking on issues of the day and promoting new approaches in film production.

The Country of Honour at MIPCOM-2016 is Japan. Visitors of the exhibition will get a chance to discover the latest innovations in animation, drama, formats and documentaries from Japan with unique flavor of the country.

For the third time this year, MIPCOM is holding Carriage Deal Forum — the leading market place for streaming platforms, distribution of channels, and nonlinear services around the world. This programme is designed to help foster carriage agreements between network operators, channels and OTT platforms. Among carriers participating in the Forum are Beln Media, Canal+ Groupe, Freesat, OSN, Roku, Telefonica, Viacom International Media Networks, Ginx Esports, Insight TV, RTL International, Shorts TV, SPI international, Trace TV and TV One. This year’s edition of the event expects 350 buyers to attend.

Shonda Rhimes, American creator and writer of groundbreaking hit shows, one of the most celebrated and influential producers in Hollywood, and head of her own production company Shondaland, has been named MIPCOM 2016 Personality of the Year. Shonda Rhimes’s TV credits include «Grey’s Anatomy», «Scandal», «Private Practice», «How to Get Away with Murder» and «The Catch».
